Cavalo55
EPK
"A simple effective groove is brought to life by Carugati’s cinematic scene setting and Kevin Morby-esque intonation." - Glide Magazine on 'acdc'
"Cavalo55 is the kind of artist that you hear once and then immediately become a fan - a little bit Gregory Alan Isakov, a little bit Lord Huron, and full of so much vibe that it instantly demands your attention." - UpToHear on 'Late Harvest'
"With his soulful, aching voice resounding against a backdrop that rises and falls in waves of explosive emotion, Cavalo55 ensures we feel the pain, the passion, the weariness, and longing, and everything else that was poured from his heart and soul into this four-and-a-half minute memory." - Atwood Magazine on 'Espresso Martini'
Cavalo55 is the musical project of very well-travelled Simone Carugati, a multi-instrumentalist, folk singer-songwriter. Growing up in Northern Italy, Cavalo55 didn’t have much to do apart from learning how to play the guitar and dreaming that he was somewhere in America. As soon as he got a chance, he left Italy and traveled to Australia, Indonesia, Scotland, and the United States, where he mingled with anarchists and jammed with New Orleans’ music-loving crust punks. During those days of busking and train-hopping, he dug deep into the great legacy of old-time folk guitar music, absorbing the Delta blues of Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson’s slide guitar, and picking up the Appalachian banjo.
He soon made his way on to Lisbon, Portugal, (because “the ticket to Lisbon was the cheapest”), where he has been creating and collaborating in the Lisbon music scene, playing solo and regularly with artists such as Marinho, as their current guitarist, Leo Middea, Time for T, and Monday, all of which are label mates, and The Lemon Lovers in bars, clubs, and venues the country over. He has also played with the Grammy winner Paulo Novaes, and Latin Grammy nominated artist Rubel.
Last year presented itself as the right time for him to create and release the first songs under his own name and shape his musical identity as a solo artist, and with that came his debut single ‘Hi’s&Lo’s’, the kind of gorgeous song that we quickly came to expect from Cavalo55. It served as a perfect gateway to his debut EP ‘Late Harvest’.

Songs on the EP included ‘A White Building’, ‘Espresso Martini’ and ‘acdc’ as the EP arrived off the back of an extremely productive few years which included recording and a handful of live sessions, leading to his first radio plays and editorial playlists across various digital streaming platforms including Rock Português, Indie Lusitano and New Music Friday Portugal on Spotify, Indie Folk & In-Between on Tidal and New in Singer-Songwriter and New Music Daily on Apple Music. Post EP release he flew out to the Edmonton Folk Festival upon receiving an invite from Kimi Djabaté, and went on to jam with Steph Strings, and Wesli Louissaint.

‘Late Harvest’ was mainly self-produced and in large part self-recorded at his home studio with a few tools and with additional production coming predominantly from Hugo Valverde with additional mastering coming from Philip Shaw Bova (Marlon Williams, Bahamas, Andy Shauf).

More recently he joined the bill for the Hola Nola Festival - an artistic residency of cultural exchange, on a fantastic line up that boasted some essential folk Americana artists from the Iberian Peninsula and New Orleans, as he shared the stage with artists such as Sam Doores (of The Deslondes), Duff Thompson, Leonie Evans, Gina Leslie, Max Bien Kahn, Julian Maeso, Sabine McCalla, Noel Mckay and Steph Green, to name a few, firstly on his first visit to Santiago de Compostela’s Riquela Club and then in Portugal, culminating at a show in Lisbon at Arroz Studios. All these collaborations further bolstered his reputation and songwriting.
His latest EP, and live companion to his debut, ‘Live Harvest’ includes two songs recorded live at ZDB in Lisbon during Cavalo55’s support slot with Myriam Gendron. Across both EP’s various songs were picked up by Folk Radio UK, Americana UK, Bandcamp New & Notable, Glide and many others.
This year promises new music as Cavalo55 prepares his next EP and prepares the release of various collaborations of which will be revealed very soon.
