Niki Moss returns, with a little a more than you would expect from a conventional new single release, this time around presenting the ‘Standing In The Dark EP’. An EP comprised entirely of re-workings of the final single to be lifted from his debut album ‘Gooey’.

A fixture and frequent encore on his current tour of Portugal and Spain, ‘Standing In The Dark’ was born in early 2019, self-recorded and produced by Niki Moss (moniker of Miguel Vilhena’).. and then more recently reborn four more times upon Moss uncovering just how
many musical explorations the song could evoke. After hitting the ground running with ‘Standing In The Dark II’, a soaring and dramatic re-imagining of the original, reinforcing the overriding refrain of “You can call me any time you please / I’m all business if you want to trade / you shall bring me all the juice you can / I’ll be throwing in my shade” to breathtaking effect and with a video re-enforcing the aforementioned ‘shade’ at every turn, Moss found himself at his most inspired.

He then embarked on a voyage of discovery to find out just how epic, psychedelic, electronic and aptly, dark, he could take a song which has always held a special place in his heart and mind. It’s a radical and bold approach, and one that has become a real labour of love. Five versions, the original ‘Standing In The Dark’ plus versions II, III, IV and V being the darkest of the new versions, come accompanied by two expansive, dark and at times heart racing videos adding a visual aid to the EP.

This comes on the eve of one of Niki Moss’ biggest shows to date with him playing full band at this year’s Super Bock em Stock festival in Lisbon, coinciding perfectly and rounding off an incredible year cementing the album and in turn this single as classic releases and paving the way for an EP of versions you perhaps wouldn’t have expected.

Of the EP Niki Moss adds:
I wanted to dissect the most powerful aspects of the original song into parts, part three is focused on the studio work where I toyed a lot with analog gear and tweaked the original instruments to create new textures. Part two is focused on the more classic pop aspects of standing in the dark with exploding choruses and a more 80’s feel. Part IV, is about the electronic influences there are always present and part V is all about the darkness that themes the song.”
