Time for T – ‘Galavanting’, a new album that has been worked on remotely between Lisbon and Madrid, of which the namesake was inspired by the nomadic and galavanting manner in which it was recorded. The opening salvo, ‘Eyes’, was released in May and signaled a fresh sound for the group, followed by the summer single ‘Screenshot’ that confirmed the quality of their determination towards an ever-evolving sound. Before ‘Galavanting’ takes you on a hazy and unpredictable journey, Time For T wets appetites one final time with ‘Calling Back’. The quartet masterfully plays with their signature palette of sounds once more – infectious atypical rhythms, nostalgic guitar lines and a distinct vocal that leaves you hanging off every word.
Speaking to the motivation behind ‘Calling Back’, Time For T share: “‘Calling Back’ was spawned from a bass line Joshua came up with at a soundcheck in Germany. Years later, Felipe, our Brazilian drummer started playing a traditional Brazilian drum pattern to it and we liked the groove and feel of it right away so when we started playing with ideas for the new album, this song was born. The lyrics were written in a caravan in the southwest of Portugal and they are about growing up in that very place “A dead-end full of life”. The chorus is about the age-old feeling of returning home, hence the lyrics “Calling back, couldn’t wait longer. Coming back, to go a little further”. We were lucky to get Josephine Nightingale to sing backing vocals on the chorus and we decided to mix things up a little with a verse entirely in Portuguese. Vocally, this song is a little different to what we’ve done in the past, it’s more of a slow rap than anything. Instrumentally, we were definitely inspired by the likes of groups such as Khruangbin, Menahan Street Band amongst others.”
